About Richard - Green Genus Garden Design

Green Genus Garden Design is owned and run by Richard Schmidt. After a long and successful career in local government finance, holding a range of senior positions at local and national level, Richard decided a fresh challenge was needed. A long-standing interest in gardening, a passion for wildlife and environmental sustainability, as well as a proven track record in problem solving led quickly to garden design as the career of choice.

To ensure the best possible quality for clients, Richard has gained a Diploma in Garden Design from prestigious KLC School of Design. Richard has worked with the RHS in setting up the Chelsea Flower Show and was part of the planting team for the Best in Show garden at RHS Hampton Court 2019. He has also worked in the gardens at Hampton Court Palace.

Richard is a member of the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), the National Trust, Woodland Trust and a member and regular volunteer for the local Wildlife Trust, as well as a pre-registered member of the Society of Garden Designers.
