Green Genus Design took the time to understand what we were looking for and incorporated this into the design to turn the garden into an inviting and welcoming outdoor space.
The plants that were chosen bring a good variety of colour, height and texture to the flower beds and we’re really looking forward to seeing them grow and mature in the coming years. The bespoke designs for the trellis and pergola are both eye-catching and fit wonderfully in the space, maintaining a consistent theme.
Our garden has gone from an outdoor space with no structure or identity to one where we can relax in different areas and enjoy it throughout the day.
We employed Richard from Green Genus Garden Design late in 2020 to provide us with a garden design that was low maintenance, giving us colour throughout the year and bee and wildlife friendly. This was to be applied to a just turfed rear garden of our new build house.
After a few iterations the final planting plan was mutually agreed, and Richard agreed to take on the work. However due to Covid, supplies of both materials and plants meant that work could not proceed until March 2021. The flower beds were marked out, and the turf and underlying clay was removed and replaced with good quality topsoil and conditioner which then allowed Richard to plant up as per plan.
Due to the cold weather, it took a long while for the plants to get established but now all are flourishing, and the garden is looking very healthy. Richard is a very knowledgeable person who works in a methodical manner paying great attention to detail and is happy to pass on his knowledge if required. We would have no hesitation in recommending him.
My previous front garden was mostly lawn with narrow flower borders round the edges. But my soil is heavy clay and the garden is quite shady, and dry in summer, because there is a tree and a hedge on one side. This meant the lawn became mostly moss and very little grass. I needed more parking space when my daughter bought a car, but I still wanted a garden, not just a parking space.
I had a few initial ideas about what I wanted the garden to look like, but I am not very good working in three dimensions. I told Richard that I wanted geometric shapes to form separate areas in the garden for parking, planting, seating and so on. He turned the shapes through 30° to create the extra parking space I wanted, with interesting paths around the areas of the garden. They allow me to meander through the deep colourful borders on my way to the seating area, where I can relax on the bench and immerse myself in the sights, sounds and smells of my garden.
From feeling a bit lost, I was amazed at how my ideas have been transformed into the garden of my dreams, with a little help from Richard.
I was impressed with the way Richard was able to find practical solutions to the issues I had, whilst at the same time devise a planting scheme that was sympathetic to the environment. The initial consultation was critical to saving time further into the project and, better still, it was free!
